The United Excursionist Perk and How to Use It!

What is the United Excursionist Perk?

One of the most amazing perks of using United miles to fly is the United Excursionist Perk, but it's well-hidden and often un-used by travelers!

The Excursionist Perk is available to anyone who is booking a round-trip flight with United Miles that starts and ends on one continent/region and travels to another! For example, we used this perk to fly from Denver to Madrid, London to Iceland, and Iceland back to Denver for only 63k miles per person! This worked since we went from North America to Europe, hopped from one European country to another, then flew back to North America from there.

To explain in more detail; you MUST start by flying from one region to another, and end flying from that region back to the original region. The middle flight is then covered, but MUST stay within the region you flew to. This is shown below to hopefully make it easier to understand:

Region A to Region B (Use Miles) - Region B to Region B (FREE!) - Region B to Region A (Use Miles)

United's regions are split up into the following:

  • Mainland US, Alaska and Canada
  • Hawaii
  • Mexico
  • Caribbean
  • Central America
  • Northern South America
  • Southern South America
  • Europe
  • Middle East
  • Northern Africa
  • Southern Africa
  • North Asia
  • Central Asia
  • South Asia
  • Japan
  • Oceania
  • Australia and New Zealand

Using these regions as a guide, this perk is a fantastic way to use up United miles for every penny they're worth! As you could imagine, this perk can save you a lot of money if you were planning on hopping from one country to another within a region on a trip! It lets you take advantage of international flights you might have already have planned and explore the region you're going to a little more!

Have any questions? Leave them below and I'd be happy to help you take advantage of this perk!
